JayMar Photography was pleased to be featured in the Henry Neighbor newspaper with an article highlighting their new studio in Locust Grove.

Two residents have banded together to provide Henry County photographers a creative venue, close to home.

Mark Howard and Jason Morrison, both of McDonough, opened Studio 42, a space open for rental to photographers, in mid-June.

Morrison said the studio is an easier and more affordable option than traveling to Atlanta.

“If you can drive one exit south, versus 10 or 15 exits north, it’s kind of a no-brainer,” said Morrison.

The facility has 1,100 square feet of shooting space that can be set up however the photographer likes, and can accommodate more than one photographer at a time.

It can also accommodate large props like motorcycles, but no cars.

Wired for sound, the studio includes make-up and changing rooms for models.

Morrison said opening a professional photography studio has been his brother-in-law’s dream for several years.

Together, he and Howard bring a wealth of expertise to the table. Howard has photographed professionally for the last 15 years.

“You could probably give him a film camera, a flashlight and put him in a cave, and he could take a perfect picture,” said Morrison. “He’s just got a lot of knowledge.”

Morrison has done Web and other types of design for the last several years and works as the communications designer for Henry County government. He also dabbles in photography and enjoys working in Adobe Photoshop, a photo editing program, but sometimes looks to Howard for guidance.

“I’ve got a lot of ideas, but I don’t know how to pull them off,” said Morrison.

They have partnered with the South Atlanta Flickr group to host monthly model shoots, an opportunity for photographers, models and stylists to boost their portfolios. For a $15 fee, photographers can spend time at the studio photographing several models.

They will also offer classes in all levels of photography, Photoshop and other photography-related subjects.

Morrison said they chose downtown Locust Grove because of its character, among other factors.

“We like the potential for growth there, and the fact that we are on a main artery is another plus for visibility,” said Morrison.

Studio 42 is located at 3832 Hwy. 42 South in Locust Grove.
